OUTDOOR RIDE PROCEDURES
- Before the Ride
Before admitting clients, the instructor will ensure that all equipment is properly sanitized
Bikes will be placed no less than 3 meters from each other
Individual hand sanitizers will be placed within the footprint of each bike
The instructor will verify that all clients have completed the electronic COVID-19 self-assessment
The Instructor will wear a mask while loading clients.
The instructor will direct clients to a bike.
The instructor will wear a face mask until he/she is clipped in on the bike
Clients will be required to wear a face mask until they are clipped in on their bike
If a client has failed to complete the electronic assessment the instructor will verbally screen them for COVID-19 symptoms by asking the following questions:
Do you have any of the following symptoms: fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat and painful swallowing, stuffy or runny nose, loss of sense of smell, headache, muscle aches, fatigue or loss of appetite?
Are you, or anyone you are living with, either sick, self-isolating, or quarantined?
Any client showing COVID-19 symptoms or who answered yes to any of the questions will not be permitted to enter the gym
Upon entering the outdoor space clients will use the provided hand sanitizer.
Clients will head directly to their bike.
Clients will remain within the footprint of their bike for the duration of the class
Clients will place all personal belonging in the assigned bin.
There will be no switching bikes.
Bikes are not permitted to be moved.
Instructors will not assist with bike set up.
If mics and headsets are used, instructors will use a sanitized headset and puff
Puffs will not be shared between instructors
Puffs will be sanitized using an appropriate cleaner before and after each class
- During the Ride
Personal towels must remain on the bikes at all times.
Bikes must remain in their place.
- After the Ride
The instructor will immediately put on a face mask
Clients will be unloaded by the instructor, one client at a time.
When all clients have exited the instructor will clean:
Wearing face mask
Using industrial disinfectant
Using a reusable towel
Using a clean towel in between each class
The instructor will clean the following:
Bikes
Instructor Equipment
Sound Equipment
Client storage bins
The instructor will follow all instructions to ensure that the disinfectant is effective.

- Before the Workout
The instructor will greet clients no more than five minutes before the scheduled start time.
Before admitting clients, the instructor will ensure that all equipment is properly sanitized,
section off the outdoor area to ensure social distancing, and layout all required equipment in each client’s individual section.
Client areas must be no closer than 3 meters to one another
Individual hand sanitizers will be placed within each client’s individual section.
The instructor will verify that all clients have completed the electronic COVID-19 self-assessment.
The instructor will wear a mask while loading the outdoor area
The instructor will direct clients to their assigned space.
Clients must wear a mask until they have reached their assigned space.
The instructor will wear a mask until within his/her space.

- After Training
All clients must wear a face mask as soon as the class ends.
The instructor will direct clients to their assigned areas one at a time.
When all clients have exited the instructor will complete a final clean:
Wearing a face mask
Using industrial disinfectant
Using a reusable towel
Using a clean towel in between each class
The instructor will clean the following
Equipment
Equipment storage
Common areas
Instructor equipment
Sound equipment
Client storage bins
The instructor will follow all instructions to ensure adequate disinfection.

INTRODUCTION
The health and safety of our clients and instructors is paramount to us. We are taking every precaution to ensure that our gym remains a safe space during these extraordinary times. By implementing a set of standard operating procedures we will ensure that we consistently exceed all Vancouver Costal Health and Worksafe BC requirements. This will also streamline the process for our clients and deliver a reliable and homogeneous experience.
1. CLIENT RESPONSIBILITIES
In order to ensure a safe environment for everyone there are a few responsibilities that our clients must take before training at our gym.
- Do not enter if you are sick or required to self-isolate
- Respect 2 meters of social distancing at all times
- Only online payment will be accepted. No Cash or cards in person
- Arrive to the studio no more than 5 minutes before the start of the class
- Please wear a mask while waiting in your spot outside
- Wear a mask at all times in the gym until, and immediately after, the workout
- Do not bring any unnecessary personal items
- Place all personal items in your assigned bin
- Bring your own sweat towel
- Bring your own water bottle as water fountains will be for employees only
- Do not share equipment
- Do not move equipment
- Prior to entering the studio complete a self-assessment using the provided QR code or website address posted outside the studio
- If unable to complete a self-assessment an instructor will verbally assess you
- Wait on the markers and follow the instructors loading and unloading instructions
By following and enforcing these responsibilities Shift+Lift will remain a safe space in which to train. We understand that these responsibilities are not ideal, and we appreciate everyone’s cooperation. Despite the situation we find ourselves in we want to ensure that our clients can continue to train in here to achieve out there.
2. INSTRUCTOR RESPONSIBILITES

- Practice good hygiene;

- Do not handle unsterilized equipment
- Do not handle client’s personal belongings
- Thoroughly clean all equipment and sections used in classes
- Screen clients for COVID-19 symptoms upon entering the gym
- Load and unload clients in the acceptable order.
- Complete a Self-Screen before entering the studio using the BC COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool
1) Before the Ride
- The instructor will open the door no more than five minutes before the scheduled start time

- The instructor will load clients in, one at a time, starting with bike 1 and finishing with bike 7
- The instructor will wear a face mask until they are clipped in on their bike

- The instructor will wear a face mask

- Instructors will remain a minimum of two meter from clients at all times
- Clients are not permitted to use their own device with the sound system
- They may request a playlist
- They may send an instructor a specific playlist
- Clients are not permitted to use the iPad or adjust volume
3) During Cardio
- Instructor will wear a face mask
- The instructor will maintain a minimum distance of 3 meters from clients
- The Gym door must be open
- The HVAC system must be on
- The Instructor will explain training beforehand so communication during the activity can be kept at a minimum
- Clients are not permitted to use their own device with the sound system
- They may request a playlist
- They may send an instructor a specific playlist
- Clients are not permitted to use the iPad or adjust volume
4) After Training
- The instructor will wear a face mask
- All clients must wear a face mask as soon as the class ends
- When all clients have exited the instructor will complete a final clean
- Wearing gloves
- Wearing a face mask
- Using industrial disinfectant
- Using a reusable towel
- Using a clean towel in between each class
- The instructor will clean the following

2) During Training
- The instructor will wear a face mask
- Clients will not be permitted to fill their water bottle during class
- Clients are permitted to get barbells and plates provided they are racked.
- Instructors will wear masks at all times
- Instructors will remain a minimum of two meter from clients at all times
- The instructor will monitor the clients and make note of any equipment that is used
- Clients will not return equipment
- Clients will place used equipment in a designated area for the instructor to sanitized
- Clients are not permitted to use their own device with the sound system
- They may request a playlist
- They may send an instructor a specific playlist
- Clients are not permitted to use the iPad or adjust volume
3) During Cardio
- Instructor will wear a face mask
- The instructor will maintain a minimum distance of 3 meters from clients
- The Gym door must be open

- Clients must sanitize hands prior to getting equipment
- Clients must sanitize equipment prior to using
- Instructors will wear masks at all times
- Instructors will remain a minimum of two meter from clients at all times
- The instructor will monitor the clients and make note of any equipment that is used
- Clients will not return equipment
- Clients will not share equipment
- If equipment is needed to be disinfected during the workout the instructor will do so following protocol outlines in subsection 4
- Clients are not permitted to use their own device with the sound system
- They may request a playlist
- They may send an instructor a specific playlist
- Clients are not permitted to use the iPad or adjust volume
3) During Cardio
- Instructor will wear a face mask
- The instructor will maintain a minimum distance of 3 meters from clients
- Clients will maintain a minimum distance of 3 meters from the client who is training cardio
- The Gym door must be open

7) EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
1) Client screens positive for COVID-19 symptoms
1) Ask client to leave politely but firmly
a. Keeping social distance
2) Refund the client for the class
3) Ask all clients who have entered the building to wait outside
4) Sanitize all equipment and areas that the positive client touched or occupied
5) If instructor is concerned there may have been transmission
a. Refund all clients
b. Cancel class
c. Contact Coastal Heath COVID line (811)
d. Begin complete disinfection of gym or areas
6) If there is no risk of transmission
a. Allow sufficient time for disinfection
b. Start class outside if weather permits
c. Resume class as normal when it is safe to do so
2) Client injures themselves
1) If injury is minor
a. Small cut
b. Bruising
c. Finger or toe injury
d. No head injury
e. Does not require medical attention
i. Instructor will hand medical equipment to the client and direct them on what steps to take.
ii. Instructor will not break social distancing with the client
2) If injury is serious
a. Requires medical attention
b. Large cut
c. Significant bleeding
d. Client struggles to move
e. Client is unconscious
f. Client is unsure and extremely uncomfortable
i. Instructor will break social distancing to assist
ii. Instructor will wear mask and single use gloves
3) Client feels ill during class
1) Cancel class
2) Immediately ask ill client to leave
3) Ask remaining clients to leave using the standard procedures

8) ADDITIONAL PROCEDURES
1) All instructors must complete the SHIFT+LIFT COVID-19 comprehension quiz before working at the gym
2) All instructors must be able to virtually attend bi-weekly reviews of the Safety Plan and discuss any issues or suggest changes
3) Each instructor must self-screen using the BC COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool at the beginning of each shift
4) Each instructor must fill out cleaning checklist at the end of each class
5) Late arrivals will only be permitted if social distancing can be maintained at all times.
6) Clients must have signed the COVID-19 waiver before attending a class
7) Records of client attendance is kept electronically and kept up to date
8) Records of staff shifts is kept electronically and kept up to date
Maximum number of Clients in Ride: 7
